They relied on caffeine to get through the day. But then days felt impossible without it. shinji-mug

POV: you have undiagnosed ADHD

[–] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Or diagnosed, and you need it to counteract the soporific effects of adderall that you get because "stimulants make you sleepy and alert at the same time" is a possible effect of ADHD.

[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago

Oof, too real.

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 19 points 1 month ago

Do not let water take a hold of you, for you will feel it’s absence

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 55 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Ah I see we’re still on that “the cannabis today is 100x bajillion times stronger than it was decades ago” bit so people don’t feel like massive hypocrites for supporting criminalization despite smoking weed in college.

[–] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago

The weed is too strong. The porn is too hot. The food is too sugary. And the games are too big.

And no I'm not joking.

[–] into_highest_invite@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

unironically is this not true? because i saw pictures of the kind of stuff jimi hendrix was smoking and it looked like it came out of the sea

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I’m sure with the industry now being more above-board there’s better quality control these days. But that’s more like, you’re not going to get a baggie that’s 70% sticks, not “drug dealers have genetically engineered uber-THC.”

so where do terpenes fit into the equation because i thought casual weed smokers started talking about whatever the hell those are not that long ago

[–] 10TH_OF_SEPTEMBER_CALL@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Jimmy hendrix notoriously smoked litteral algaes iirc

i cant find anything about this but it's cool as hell if true

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 36 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I use weed daily, not because I can't stop (I have no problem taking a t-break or having to take a day off because of circumstances) but because why the fuck not, because it helps my brain transition out of daily grind and stress and into mindless TV or video game playing.

[–] Nasalstrip@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I wish I didn’t have such guilt when I use it regularly. It’s the only thing that allows me to focus on something and actually enjoy it, my adhd meds help me focus but they make me feel really scatterbrained and like I’m tweaking lol.

I also worry it makes my depression and lack of motivation worse but idk. I just really enjoy it so its hard to stop. Sorry to randomly rant under your comment lol, just came to mind

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 1 points 1 month ago

I worry about those things to. The guilt comes and goes, but I just try to focus on if weed is actually causing me problems. Sometimes I am using weed to avoid stuff I really need to do but often it is just an easy way to cope right now

[–] BobDole@hexbear.net 36 points 1 month ago

You ever suck ~~dick~~ toes for weed??

[–] miz@hexbear.net 34 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It really sucks reading articles like these and holding the belief that addiction is serious and anyone can become addicted to anything. Cause like come on man, does it.make your brain try to break out of your skull prison like mine when I get no nicotine? Idk. Strange world. Absolutely abstract.

[–] Nasalstrip@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

It sucks cuz it helps me focus and enjoy things but I worry it makes my depression worse long term. Tiring.

[–] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago

Cause like come on man, does it.make your brain try to break out of your skull prison like mine when I get no nicotine?

Not typically but I have had some rough nights tbh

[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 33 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Alternative title: life has gotten so horrible and the horrors so apparent that it feels impossible to go through the day without something to ease the dread.

Didn't Mark Fisher write about this like 20 years ago?

[–] Hyper_red@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

Marx wrote about this over 100 years ago

[–] UmmmCheckPlease@hexbear.net 25 points 1 month ago

I read this earlier today and it’s just obscenely absurd. Not that one can’t develop an abusive relationship with weed but it’s so annoying to see it regularly used to stigmatize users. Preaching to the congregation here but an article about a topic like this with no sort of material analysis is so unserious

[–] ColonelKataffy@hexbear.net 22 points 1 month ago

cannabis is the opium of the people

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 19 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You will have nothing and be happy with it.

[–] Aggravationstation@feddit.uk 5 points 1 month ago

I have a house, wouldn't mind some weed I could smoke in there but its illegal in my country

[–] GenXen@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago

A baby boomer who survived decades in kitchens can't focus so well to learn to read music. Can't think of any other reasons why a 75 year old would have cognitive issues other than pot. Switch to a dry herb vape instead of cartridges, and just be proud that you're still kicking my dude.

[–] Atlas@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 1 month ago

I am legitimately having some trouble breaking the habit of smoking every day.

IDK if it's because I've formed a dependency or because I feel incredibly stuck in life and it's good escapism.

Either way it's probably a good idea to stop for a little bit and then see how I'm feeling later.

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

I use it to get through the day because it is far and away the most effective painkiller I've come across and I can't afford the $600 I'll need to replace my orthotics right now

[–] NecroticEuphoria@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 month ago

Any addiction should be treated the same way:

Decriminalization, destigmatization and plenty of help for quitting.

Also a redefinition of addiction would be in order, as we don't treat some things like a proper and possibly harmful addiction, while other more harmless things are treated in a hostile manner.

It's almost as if there's a state sanctioned, profitable for companies consumption and a less profitable for companies, criminalized consumption and the problems are systemic...

ITT drug addicts deny their reality

Edit: yall are proving my point with your defensive responses lol. There’s a lot of distance between “we should criminalise and imprison anyone caught with pot” and “nah it’s actually totally fine and healthy to numb myself every single day with a psychoactive chemical, I am not addicted at all” lol. I didn’t make a moral judgement, it’s just a statement of fact. And don’t come at me with “medicinal” either. Of course some people find weed medicinally beneficial. Like 10% of the population are estimated to have ADHD and the vast majority of them find amphetamines amazingly helpful in symptom reduction, that doesn’t make daily amphetamine use something we should recommend to the general population lol.

Drug prohibition is a racist tool to put brown people in prison.

If people weren't so judgmental about weed maybe my grandma could have had it instead of opoids.

i wanna bet you dont have a loved one with real drug addiction otherwise you'd know better

[–] UmmmCheckPlease@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

lol. Hell yeah, @glimmer_twin@hexbear.net , you tell those pesky kids jagoff what a rube

[–] BeanisBrain@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

“nah it’s actually totally fine and healthy to numb myself every single day with a psychoactive chemical, I am not addicted at all”

Sometimes when I garden in the beginning of fall, I have a horde of deer that will spend a straight month getting shit-faced on fermented crab-apples and banging to go back into the forest when they've eaten all of them. It's a pretty huge tree and they clean out the yard pretty good to the point where they're stumbling over eachother.

If there was more, I'm convinced they'd spend more time just dining on fermented fruit and getting fucked up constantly. While human beings are not quite just deer, the only place I can think of you coming from is expecting some "societal contribution" that is being hampered by me engaging in engaging in the binge or use of intoxicants or psychoactive drugs. Otherwise, who cares what people do? Why is a "drug addict" something to stigmatize?

Like 10% of the population are estimated to have ADHD and the vast majority of them find amphetamines amazingly helpful in symptom reduction

I think a lot of drugs should be over-the-counter but regulated. Amphetamines help with a lot more than just ADHD. I take a near-daily "psychedelic" that is just a tryptamine for migraines. A lot of people prefer marijuana and/or kratom over opiods which are prescribed to plenty of people for chronic pain relief. Why pay such large premiums, restrict access and place stigma on these when they can be regulated and controlled by the (hopefully socialist) state in production/distribution?

Further more, I don't think you realize how many people in the U.S are just straight up "dealing" with chronic pain or minor disability that use these as coping mechanisms to be exploited by capitalism. Or pain of the mind and "soul" if you will.

This addiction is real, and incredibly difficult to kick. I lost a decade of my life convincing myself it wasn't that bad, basically being high whenever I was conscious and not working.

Today I'm 110 days sober and the cravings are still there, but my mental capacity has also improved dramatically.

[–] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

my mental capacity has also improved dramatically.

Could you elaborate? I wonder because I got 92% on my trade exam that included math and things and have been smoking concentrates daily for years.

Could i become the most smarterest insulator ever?

[–] Jela@lemmy.today 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Absolutely, I feel like I was still smart, inquisitive, mindful and all that.. but it felt like my ability to access that information and effectively communicate it out loud wasn't very easy. I would always forget the names of things in the middle of a sentence, I'd take longer to respond to questions at work.. stuff like that.

[–] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 3 points 4 weeks ago

I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Thank you

[–] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

As someone who was legit addicted to hash/weed for over a decade, and experienced very real withdrawal symptoms for the best part of a month after quitting, I'm genuinely surprised by some of the responses to this post.

There are studies that show that (iirc, I got the number from the drug councelor I went to but it's been like 15 years) ~8% of users do actually get addicted to this stuff, regardless of what the agenda of the posted article may be it's a real thing that does happen to real people.

Maaan nothing beats smoking a j while playing the guitar, or painting, or cooking, or watching clouds, or watching a movie, or talking to friends, or playing games, or…

What were we talking about? I’m high sorry.
