All relationships are a fetish unless they are straight and cis, apparently.

[–] BeamBrain@hexbear.net 49 points 2 months ago

This is unironically how reactionaries think

Did these fuckers watch Deep Space 9?

The sexual tension between Garak and Dr. Bashir was so thick you could slice it with a Bat'leth!

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 39 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This tourist has not watched one fucking microsecond of Star Trek

[–] SupFBI@hexbear.net 9 points 2 months ago

You may want to consider rectifying that.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 34 points 2 months ago

Andrew Robinson played it like that intentionally and has said so

[–] AmarkuntheGatherer@lemmygrad.ml 27 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Until that fucker Berman forced them to drop it. Afterwards they had fewer and fewer scenes together and they both got paired off with women to ensure nobody could "misconstrue" their sexuality.

[–] Siobhan@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Right up to that relationship. You know the one. The fucking CREEPY one. If you know you know

[–] Wheaties@hexbear.net 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

you mean the one that should have gotten Bashier's medical license revoked?

I know right? I really felt like they were gonna kiss in certain moments until I remembered that it was the 90's...

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm working through.a first-timer watch of DS9, and there was sexual tension within seconds of their first appearance. It's the only romance the show has given me so far that has any real chemistry.

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Possibly because most others involved either Sisko who had "help me" in his eyes in every relevant scene or ancient mind leech. Oh and Grand Nagus and Quark's mom which was i guess pretty wholesome for a Ferengi standards.

Don't forget about Kira and the world's stiffest priest

The actors always wanted them to fall in love, but alas it was the 90s

[–] TerminalEncounter@hexbear.net 38 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Frakes wanted to kiss a gender ambiguous alien who presented masc but Berman said "nope, you can have blacks and whites working together but no one is gay in the future"

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 27 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (3 children)

iirc they did kiss, Frakes' objection was that Berman was a coward for casting a woman for the enby alien instead of a man

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago

"More extreme for dopamine hits"

literally just two men kissing.

[–] jack@hexbear.net 22 points 2 months ago

Classic straight guy thinking

[–] iByteABit@hexbear.net 35 points 2 months ago

I've been seeing way too much of this shit lately and by real people irl as well, fuck the fascists spreading their propaganda like a godamn pandemic. People waste away on bullshit soul draining jobs for a system that sees them as expendable profit machines, but the thing they decide to get enraged upon and talk about is their tv series not being dominated by white straight males. This shit is so frustrating honestly doomer

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 32 points 2 months ago

Deep emotional connections is porn. Sorry, I don't make the rules.

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 31 points 2 months ago (2 children)

If they said this about a highly sexualized piece of media like the Handmaiden or Mulholland Drive they'd still be wrong, but I'd at least get where they're coming from by calling them porn. But this? What do they think the word means??? Porn is when romance is shown on screen and it's not super basic cishet dynamics?

[–] freagle@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No, this is the example of wokeism. The poster is saying that this example of wokeism is caused by porn addiction

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 15 points 2 months ago

Gay people were invented by the porn industry to handle gender shortages theory-gary

you're telling me they made star trek WOKE ?!?!?!

[–] Siobhan@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago

Yup. It infected the franchise as recently as 1966 in the first episode

[–] blame@hexbear.net 25 points 2 months ago

wow anti-wokism is really just christian fundamentalism? you're telling me this now?

[–] Des@hexbear.net 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

WAIT IT"S NOW CANON YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS im so happy

[–] Florn@hexbear.net 19 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

They're alternate universe versions of the characters but they do say they'd love each other in any universe

[–] Des@hexbear.net 13 points 2 months ago

aww damn still i'll take it.

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

A version of Garak from an alternate universe was a Starfleet surgeon serving on the Anaximander under Captain William Boimler. He was married to an Emergency Medical Hologram of Julian Bashir from a different reality. He was also a former member of the Obsidian Order, but in his universe Garak had become a surgeon rather than a Deep Space 9 tailor after his spy career was over. (LD: "Fissure Quest")

Starfleet uniform was like 10 times more suspicious than being gay with Bashir because they did flirted for like half of DS9.

I’ll never forgive 4chan for making it cool to be a spoiled, uptight, soccer mom.

[–] hxok@hexbear.net 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This type of dude will look at this and call it porn, and then watch a hallmark Christmas movie like “Hot Frosty” and call it good family fun.

On the one hand, I'm glad that Bashir / Garak is finally canon, but on the other hand, I wish it were canonized in a piece of media that wasn't Lower Decks.

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago (3 children)

I mean it would be nice if it had happened on DS9 yeah but Lower Decks is legit the best Star Trek anything that has been released in like 30 years

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 15 points 2 months ago

Agreed. It's the first Trek I've seen in a long time that felt like it was coming from the same place as the TNG era shows

If they actually did this, the fandom will go wild. And I might actually scream.
