Vote on advance polling days at your ASSIGNED polling station

They run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on:

  • Friday, April 18
  • Saturday, April 19
  • Sunday, April 20, or
  • Monday, April 21

The rules for voting on advance polling days in the federal election differ from those of some provincial elections, where you can vote at any advance voting place in the province. You cannot do the same in the federal election. If you choose to vote during advance polling days, you must vote at your assigned polling station. To find your advance polling station, check your voter information card or use the Voter Information Service. [same links as above]

Just a reminder that a Conservative vote is literally a vote to destroy Canadian culture with their plans to defund the CBC.

And likely the country itself, since Polievre is a fucking coward who'll give the Toddler-in-Chief whatever he wants.

Regardless of the polling numbers. Get out and VOTE!!

If you can't make it to your assigned advance polling station you can VOTE at any Elections Canada Office before 6PM on April 22nd.

I've seen more people in line compared to the last two Ontario elections in total.

Bodes well for the non-traitors.

Currently in line with my family. The lines here are huge.

I guess with this being a stat everyone is available.

[–] christopher@lemmy.ca 19 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

They should make voting days a holiday

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 16 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

My job gives me three hours out of the workday so I can vote.

It can become a stat. It should be a stat. The precedent is there.

[–] thomas@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago

It's a law, every employer must allow voters 3h of time to vote : https://www.elections.ca/content2.aspx?section=faq&document=faqtimo&lang=e

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 32 points 3 weeks ago

Some polls show a very close race, so this election might be much closer than suggested a week or two ago. Get out and vote!

[–] argh_another_username@lemmy.ca 26 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Already voted. Civic duty done.

I woke up late to vote and damn I'm paying for it

Either way I'm glad to see the massive lineup over where I'm at🀌πŸ”₯

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 18 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Great! heading out to early vote this am.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Why nearly? If you get there you may as well vote. πŸ˜‚

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I already voted - line up was huge ay the advance polls

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Longest lines I've seen at an early poll.

One of the staff said about an hour wait.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 12 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

I waited one hour to vote this morning. I don’t care though. One hour of my time to stop fascist is easy.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

One hour of my time to stop fascist is easy.

Absolutely. It's good to see so many people motivated to vote ASAP.

They're giving some of the older folks in the lineup chairs.

So far it's been a hour in line. Still a bunch of people ahead of us.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 weeks ago

They're giving some of the older folks in the lineup chairs.

They should be given priority. That's a 50 person queue who never thought of that.

[–] ValueSubtracted@startrek.website 17 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm standing in line at the polls right now, and all I can say is to be prepared for long lines.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (4 children)

Yeah. We bailed as we're still nervous about lines and groups (#covid) and we'll go back when it's quieter.

I do not remember a queue like this ever before. Everyone must've had the same idea. Unless turn-out is insane - and this election was held against a very unsettling backdrop so, maybe - we're hoping it'll be quieter later.

[–] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 weeks ago

Please go vote. It's imperative that everyone vote in this election.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It was Good Friday (stat. holiday) so I think a number of people figured this was the best day to go.

[–] Ethank@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, from what I hear in my area, everyone went yesterday morning but it quieted down in the afternoon and evening

Already voted before! It is a right that really should be exercised more often.

[–] CanadianCarl@sh.itjust.works 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

My parents think it will steal their vote. Even if they don't vote. The elections in February they didn't vote, and were happy when I lied about saying I never voted. My grandparents are the opposite, and encourage me to vote.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

How will your voting affect theirs? This is baffling.

[–] CanadianCarl@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

Idk, I am not them.

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 14 points 3 weeks ago

5 minute lineup voting today; went relatively smoothly.

Anyone voting in one of those ridings with more than 8 candidates? How did that go?

[–] streetfestival@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 weeks ago

I did my part meme. Toronto here. Arrived to advance polls mid-afternoon on Good Friday. Waited 30 min to vote. Lines were twice as long when I left. Similar reaction to others here: I've never seen advance voting this busy before. (It being a Stat holiday is probably a factor too.) If you don't want to wait long, go to advance voting, and go at a strategic time. I am guessing - and hope too - that turnout will be really big this year. Polls might be super busy on election day.

[–] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 12 points 3 weeks ago

Voted yesterday at 11 am, no one in line at my pole, but the one next to mine, there were about 20 people queued up. I think there might be a big turnout for this election.

[–] arrakark@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 weeks ago

30 min lineup at advance voting at about 4pm today. Everyone I talked to says it's longer than previous years!

[–] lazylion_ca@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Why don't they just call it "Election Week".

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Because the actual election day is the week after advance voting ends.

[–] Punchshark@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 weeks ago

CANADA DOESNT NEED A SMALL ~pp~

[–] Arkouda@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 weeks ago

Nice to read that the lines are just as long for everyone else as they were for my lady and I. Brings a lot of comfort to see not only so many out to vote, but so many out to vote on early voting day!

[–] Dearche@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

One hour lineup on fri.

Frankly surprised at how many others showed up that day, but glad. People need to be more active in the democratic process or else it only benefits the already powerful because they never forget to vote.

Is there any early data on turnout?

[–] otters_raft@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/elections-canada-record-turnout-first-day-advance-voting-1.7514390

Elections Canada has announced preliminary estimates that show nearly two million electors voted Friday, the first day of advance polls.

François Enguehard, a regional media advisor in the Atlantic region for Elections Canada, said the turnout is up 36 per cent from the first day of advance polling in the last election in 2021.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago

Thank you sir!

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago

I did my part. Now hopefully the rest of you all don't fuck it up.

[–] t0fr@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

I went Saturday morning first thing. Walked in and out in under 5 minutes. This was the first time I did advance polling and I'm super happy I did.

[–] MrCallahan@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

Voted over the weekend - we went later in the day, and it turned out to be perfect timing! literally no one in line when we got there, we were in and out in less than 3 minutes. I can't imagine what the lines are going to look like closer to the last day.

[–] senoculum@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

#NeverPoilievre

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Just voted. Lineups were slim to none. 15 minutes and done.

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

I voted yesterday!

It was a smooth process, in and out in 5 minutes.

[–] dom@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

45min wait this morning
