“Anime is Christian” anime uses what is basically blasphemy constantly, a veneer of Christian aesthetic for the purpose of a plot or character. That’s how you get a “vampire hunter” adorned with crosses and saying jumbled church Latin. The Catholic Church would never admit vampires are real. These people are tourists about Christianity. And anime. Life in general. A fucking dandelion floating on the wind.

[–] BoxedFenders@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago

Yeah, Japanese culture is so non-Christian that they find Christian symbolism to be exotic, and weave it into their fiction for edgy shock value.

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 24 points 2 days ago

The bad guys in NGE are called 'Angels' very Christian, very cool

[–] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 40 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Anyone who uses that slur deserves to be promptly beaten to death with multiple sticks before being kicked and pissed on.

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 32 points 2 days ago

It's an instant "no more questions, face the wall" how-compelling

[–] BattleshipPokemon@hexbear.net 23 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It's so pathetic too, like tr---y has some oomf to it but like tr--n just feels so lackluster. First time i ever saw it used unironically was glinner (57 years old) calling a 17 year old it on his blog because he had an argument with her

Anyone caught using 4chan language as an adult should be mocked and their heads put into a toilet. The only exception I'm make is the word based, but only if you're calling actually good things based

Rickroll, kino, creepypasta, weeaboo and some derivations thereof, troll, brony, waifu and husbando, rules 34 and 63, MFW, muh, fedpost, zoomer, coomer, copium, consoom, cumbrained, god tier, and vidya are some other terms originating in chan culture that I think have become more or less fully normalized in broader Internet culture if not culture in general. Also, Lil B came up with based (albeit with a different meaning than what 4chan eventually twisted it into), show him some respect.

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think weeaboo was a similar case to based, where it's originally from this Perry Bible Fellowship comic. The shortened form of weeb might be a 4chan original.

[–] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh, yes, good idea to point that out. I believe it was that 4chan's word filter turned "wapanese" into "weeaboo", right?

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago

Don't know myself, but my searching seems to say yes.

It's a shibboleth but one that marks you as the most pathetic and distasteful bottom-dwelling scum

Please CW for transphobic slur.

One piece season 2 is campy and the pacing feels off at some points but it's really fun and I love seeing people (see: navy fash) get murdered in horrible ways because oda would never.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 39 points 2 days ago

Yeah if your scope of anime is weirdo isekai harem slop then you'd think anime was fascist and christian.

One Piece is one of the wokest pieces of media I've ever seen come out of Japan. These people are hilarious.

Not an anime but I was reading reviews for the new Spartacus House of Ashur series, and some people were skewering it for being too woke for having a black gladiatrix be the star, saying the creators had forgotten what made the original great. Spartacus, the series about a slave rebellion, with like 3 aggressively gay relationships with on-screen sex scenes, with a black woman slave who becomes one of their main fighters. Just wild trolling from people who were watching (if they watched it all) with one eye on the TV and the other lodged on Facebook right-wing rage bait on their phone.

Anime is right-wing and Christian, reality shows are liberal and Muslim, police procedurals are Posadist and Buddhist. It's simple facts.

This is how I learn the second season's out I guess.

Also in a just world people would be in ~~a gulag~~ Impel Down for posting like this.

[–] ATS1312@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 days ago

Big same. We can rely on the right wingers screaming "WOKE!!!!" at anything.

Now that the chuds are mad, I know it exists and it looks fun.

[–] Frivolous_Beatnik@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

Only watched the first 4 episodes but it's been cheesy fun, like the first season. Some sick performances in the soundtrack too - Whisky Peak sax goes crazy

for a second i thought the anime was back, cus of all the season1 memes that appeared after it was announced the anime was going seasonal. now im just kinda sad

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

the father of anime was a member of the communist party

Who?

[–] axont@hexbear.net 28 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I think Osamu Tezuka, but his ideology was kinda all over the place and he was a party member for less than a year

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago

Hey just like me!

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 11 points 2 days ago (2 children)

If by party you mean the JCP(couldn't find which org he joined from a quick search, or when) they're haven't even been marxist since the mid 70's they're basically center left social democrats, although more radical in the past but never very revolutionary

[–] axont@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago

He would have been a member some time in the 1960s since he apparently did a cartoon in a 1967 issue of the JCP newspaper

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

the mid 70's

Osamu Tezuka was born in 1928

I'm sorry I don't know who this is

[–] KurtVonnegut@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago

Yeah, Tezuka wrote an Astro Boy arc where he goes back in time and fights the American military during the Vietnam War. But he also has Astro Boy commit 2 separate genocides (against alien species) which are portrayed as a good thing. Tezuka also wrote a manga called "Message to Adolf" about Hitler (I haven't read that one, so not sure what the politics are).

I liked John of God more than Jon of Rice, and that's saying something.
