there was no good-faith and productive discussion to be had when you celebrate murder

how can you call others a tankie when you dance on graves as they do?

i have sympathy for the americans who are wronged by the man murdered but instead of violence maybe you consider reading a book to understand the world around you and be open to the power of faith to restore your love of humanity instead of parading violence

Jury nullification is a constitutional right of jurors. The idea that discussion of your own constitutional rights is a violation of the terms of service of a speech platform is pretty wild to me (or would be if I wasn't aware of what freeze-peach actually means in this country)

Bootlicker gonna lick boot

Tale as old as time

[–] fox@hexbear.net 26 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Judges can declare mistrial if the jurors learn that it's an option during court and lawyers are essentially obligated to not tell the jurors they can do it

[–] Maturin@hexbear.net 17 points 5 months ago (1 children)

There are all sorts of constitutional rights the system wish didn’t exist.

[–] QuietCupcake@hexbear.net 13 points 5 months ago

Not really, tbh. The ones they don't like they just pretend don't exist, and most of the actually good ones are written ambiguously enough in the constitution itself that there's no problem weaseling around them.

Birdbrained shit, these are the people who reported dutifully to police stations for questioning on 9/12/1973 because they haven't done anything wrong, so why would anything bad happen?

[–] Parzivus@hexbear.net 64 points 5 months ago

Officially more lib that Reddit, wew

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 62 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Like I don't understand the appeal to lemmy outside of here and grad because it's just a shittier clone of reddit, this is literally reddit tier propaganda/moderation abuse.

[–] OprahsedCreature@lemmy.ml 43 points 5 months ago

But with my ml account I can occasionally conveniently glance at how shitty world is before quickly switching back to my hexbear, grad, and ml subscriptions. I can also harass them on world on occasion when I'm feeling sassy. Also I just like ml on principle, original devs and all.

Remember: during jury selection you don't know what jury nullification is. In fact, you don't know what it is until you become foreman or are otherwise already established as someone trustworthy and liked by the other jurors.

sorry your legs had to be amputated and your wife is dead but have you considered reading a book?

[–] Midnight_Pearl@hexbear.net 37 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (2 children)

...what do you mean "which book?" you know, a book

[–] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 30 points 5 months ago (2 children)

he means Rich Dad Poor Dad. he read it after having doubts about Operation Iraqi Freedom. losing faith in the american imperial project, he discovered, was "Poor Dad" mindset. so he decided to do "Rich Dad" grind and, using the power of faith, mines crypto.

Hope you charged him for it. Reading for free is poor guy shit.

[–] SeducingCamel@hexbear.net 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Met with a dude from LinkedIn once and thought I had a cool sounding job opportunity until he wanted me to read that guy's book on how multi level marketing is the coolest thing ever

[–] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I have seen nearly that exact same story so many times. it's like from some MLM recruiter playbook. I guess it works enough times that they keep doing it.

the only time I've ever seen a physical copy of that bullshit was one Xmas my dumbass boomer parents reserved some short term rental in my neighborhood to visit. the price was insane because the housing situation in my town was fucked and let these assholes snap up all the inventory. so when I went over to visit and saw a bookshelf, I went at it like a missile.

this book. some Dave Ramsey shit. a ton of reactionary bullshit, ton of chud lit.

[–] SeducingCamel@hexbear.net 4 points 5 months ago

Yeah I can see how they reel people in, it felt like I was being guilted into the next meeting and led along, it was vague and he didn't even say the name was amway until the 4th time we talked. The original pitch was "my good friends started this small company and want to help other ent"

[–] BountifulEggnog@hexbear.net 26 points 5 months ago (2 children)

be open to the power of faith

Calling it now, the Bible.

[–] TheLepidopterists@hexbear.net 18 points 5 months ago

Hey some parts of it are alright. Here's my favorite bit, very appropriate given current events.

Acts 5:1-11 New International Version Ananias and Sapphira

5 Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. 2 With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.

3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”

5 When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. 6 Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.

7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?”

“Yes,” she said, “that is the price.”

9 Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”

10 At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.

The Bible is way harsher on what insurance CEOs do than those who would kill them.

Absolutely insane how fast .world became everything about Reddit people hate.

[–] goferking0 29 points 5 months ago

What did people expect when that instance was all about being just like reddit.

Fuck their mods even go with the using multiple accounts and asking questions ~~why things were removed~~ about decisions as reasons to be banned

[–] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 39 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Remember when we all held hands in a prayer circle and it stopped Hitler

[–] BashfulBob@hexbear.net 17 points 5 months ago (1 children)

This but unironically, except in Russian. The power of mutual aid and class solidarity won that war.

[–] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 22 points 5 months ago

That and killing a shitload of nazis

The posters at .world honestly must have been the type of dorks that rat out students to teachers in primary school.

[–] BashfulBob@hexbear.net 17 points 5 months ago (2 children)

It's hard not to fedjacket half the Lemmy instances, the way they kowtow to every liberal totem.

Some number of admins are absurdly compromised. The only question is which ones and to whom.

[–] imogen_underscore@hexbear.net 17 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

doesn't have to be feds, liberal true believers are naturally gonna rise to positions of power in any social structure that isn't overtly based on opposing the prevailing ideology. it will even happen in groups which are opposed to the prevailing ideology, which is why being vigilant about combatting liberalism is so important.

[–] PorkrollPosadist@hexbear.net 15 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Some number of admins are absurdly compromised. The only question is which ones and to whom.

Maybe. But it is not necessary. A big part of the reason why Liberals are so annoying is the basic fact that Liberalism is an idealistic philosophy. At the very root of everything is the belief that if enough people believe in something, it is sure to happen. This is why when it comes to Liberalism, everything is an awareness campaign. All we need to do is identify the good beliefs, never stop shouting the good beliefs at the top of our lungs, and liberal utopia will manifest itself.

A lot of these people are true believers, who see themselves as the front line soldiers of an information war. They see the demise of the United States, or the western liberal democratic alliance more broadly not as a material process, not as the chickens coming home to roost, but SIMPLY as a crisis of epistemology. The masses are wrong because not enough of them understand we are the good guys! There may be some fed admins floating around, but I am convinced that the admins of .world genuinely believe criticism of the United States on social media will lead to the extinction of democracy and that they are "doing their part" to save it.

[–] CocteauChameleons@hexbear.net 35 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (2 children)

Thats one of the most clowniest things Ive ever seen on a liberal platform . My eyes are forever ruined

[–] QuietCupcake@hexbear.net 17 points 5 months ago

It's pretty bad but also typical. It's run-of-the-mill lib civility fetishism and refusal to acknowledge systemic injustice. If that ruined your eyes, don't spend any time on .world, you'll be blinded as quickly as if you looked at the sun through binoculars.

[–] goferking0 11 points 5 months ago

Which is sad cause that's the normal for them at world

[–] heartheartbreak@hexbear.net 35 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Lmao theyre telling them to read the bible as the solution to class struggle??

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 37 points 5 months ago

All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.

Acts 2:44-45

I think I know what the biblical solution is!
