Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Summary

Elon Musk has accused the U.S. judiciary of an “attempted coup” after a federal judge upheld a restraining order preventing his government efficiency task force, DOGE, from accessing federal payment systems.

DOGE has faced lawsuits for attempting to bypass congressional oversight, purge civil servants, and shut down federal agencies.

Critics argue his claims ignore constitutional checks and balances.

Over 40 lawsuits challenge Trump’s orders, many paused pending judicial review.

Activist judge

"Any judge that does something I don't like is an activist judge."

[–] tlou3please@lemmy.world 29 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I mean, it's not easy to be a judge. Doing good by making sure the law is applied correctly and fairly is precisely the POINT of them. (Obviously not to these "people")

“Democracy in America is being destroyed by judicial coup"

  • Elon on Twitter

Coup definition: "a sudden, violent, and unlawful seizure of power from a government."

So, a federal judge putting the brakes on your dismantling of our government and its checks and balances is a "coup"? OK, does this mean we took the country back and we don't have to worry about Musk or his VP Don anymore?

And if there is a judiciary in the US destroying our democracy it's the Supreme Court, but oddly he has no issues with them.

Edit Spelling is my nemesis, and autocorrect is the enemy of my enemy, but I hate them both.

Every one of these nazi DARVO statements should be met with the response "Read the Constitution" as pretty much every Federal employee is required to swear to uphold and defend that Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic (Musk and Trump)

War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength.

Doublespeak and its use in Orwell's 1984 was amongst other things inspired by how the Fascists' main "argumentation" technique was twisting the meaning of words often so far beyond even the simplest logic that used one word to mean its opposite.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

...stopping a coup is a coup.

*brakes (devices for slowing things down)

"Breaks" are things that are broken, either physically, or figuratively.

I wonder where the delineation from psychopathy and just being an asshole really exist? To my knowledge psychopathy isn't a clinically diagnosable personality disorder, as it seems to require some aspect of privilege to perpetuate without completely isolating yourself.

With the amount of dweebs who instantly become "psychopaths" the moment they receive an iota of power over people, it really makes me wonder how many people lack genuine empathy. Are these people just utilizing false empathy as a way to fit in prior to their position of power, or is power really just that damaging to the psyche?

It's just kinda horrifying how many nerds become rapist, naunces, or fascist the moment they think no one can bully them anymore. Does society need some kinds of system where we deputize some kind of ethical gymbro to give these dudes swirlies when they get out of hand?

Came here to say this is IMAX levels of projection.

More fake news from the lying, radical left!

(/s if it wasn't obvious)

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think this is underestimating them. They're yelling "coup" so you ignore other people saying "coup" legitimately.

[–] WatDabney@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 year ago

Mmm... yes and no.

This is a trait that Trump shares (and in fact, Trump is pretty much the ultimate example of it).

And yes - it's absolutely a strategic advantage to them to toss around accusations to which they themselves are justifiably subject, since that at least diverts some focus from, and potentially completely undermines, the accusations against them.

But I think that's more in the nature of a fringe benefit that they (and again, especially Trump) have come to recognize over the years and that first and foremost, it's just plain old psychological projection, and rooted simply in their profound mental illness.

In Trump's case, look at things like his obsession with crowd size and his immediate rage against anything he considers a threat to his image, or in Musk's case, look at his cringey edgelord posturing and his lies about video game high scores. Both of them are desperately insecure and overcompensating egomaniacs, and I presume that in both cases, that's the real root of their projection - that essentially they're telling themselves, "I know you are but what am I?" Not as a strategy but simply as a defense mechanism for their grossly inflated and fragile egos.

But yes - chicken or egg, it is also an effective strategy to deflect or divert from legitimate accusations against them.

Every accusation is a confession.

[–] SLVRDRGN@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Yes, between Trump and Elon, they're conducting a self coup.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

As per standard procedure.

Elon Musk is really lucky Americans are so domesticated.

A free country would have skinned him alive by now

attempted coup

Never forget: the P in GOP stands for "projection".

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The irony of a guy saying there's a coup, coming from the guy trying to commit a government takeover coup style.

[–] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

A branch reasserting some checks and balances on another is hardly a coup. More like the opposite.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 12 points 1 year ago

They know what they're doing. Kill the language that describes what they are doing. Then you're left with no way to properly express the severity of the issue without a long winded explanation that people will just ignore or tune out....

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 year ago

Unelected idiot who wants to run the universe is mad that he is being stopped or questioned by a trained legal professional who spent years democratically building their career based on trust and the support of an entire legal system.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 year ago

I'm not trying to commit a coup, you are!
