The best protest is one that accomplishes nothing, inconveniences nobody, and is entirely self-contained.

[–] Balefirex@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

my brain protesting against society by giving me depression for the last 15 years

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 61 points 1 week ago

People who believe in nothing, stand for nothing, and are indignant at nothing, promise to do nothing as the worst case scenario unfolds in front of them? shocked-pikachu

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 53 points 1 week ago

Mark Hamill not posting for 5 days is a boon to everyone, though.

most coherent liberal

[–] Comrade_Mushroom@hexbear.net 48 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Luke Skywalker should have defeated the empire by, like, idk, fucking around at the cantina while his family's corpses roasted in the desert sun, or something

[–] nohaybanda@hexbear.net 30 points 1 week ago

That would imply Hamil has any stakes in the unfolding horror show. He doesn't, not beyond liberal aesthetics. Which is why he can take a self-care week and call it resistance. Useless fucking libs

I mean in old expanded universe in the 30 years after RotJ Luke saved trillions of people on various occasions and rarily had a moment of peace because he took being a jedi seriously. In the new canon he did nothing in that time.

[–] AnarchoCynicalist@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They asked Hamil for input on how his character would fight against the rise of a new galaxy wide turbofascist regime and that was the most radical thing he could come up with. It all makes sense now.

Joker would have already constructed elaborate trap by kidnapping melania

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 41 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Couldn't someone as wealthy as Hamill, y'know, spend the rest of his life actually joining real, physical protests?

[–] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 31 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yes, but then your lib card gets revoked, because we all learned from Star Wars that the best way to protest an evil empire is to logout and do nothing else

[–] axont@hexbear.net 41 points 1 week ago

Knowing Hamil he's probably protesting that Israel finally agreed to a ceasefire

[–] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 38 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Seeing this reminds me of when I saw The Last Jedi and I realized Star Wars was no longer for me. The weird marvel humor, fast-paced fight scenes, and multiple plot threads going nowhere made me tap out. All the kids in the theater thought it was the coolest thing ever and I have to remember that despite the protests of fans, children have always been a large part of who the series panders to.

[–] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The weird marvel humor

Thank God I haven't seen these movies. The last Star Wars media I remember seeing, apart from The Force Awakens, was Tartakovsky's Clone Wars miniseries.

[–] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The animated TV shows are all pretty good, and Andor is the best thing Star Wars to ever exist. All the other live action shows are incredibly mid, and the sequel trilogy are flaming hot garbage

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 11 points 1 week ago

A lot of the good Star Wars stuff is intentionally made for kids - like the animated series and the new Skeleton Crew show.

Andor is probably the big exception. I'm setting my expectations for season 2 super low lol

thank god someone is brave enough to change America by [checks notes] not watching TV for less than a week

[–] DoiDoi@hexbear.net 31 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

You laugh now but this is just like when John Lennon ended the Vietnam war by staying in luxury hotels for a couple weeks. Thank you for your service Mr. Hamill sankara-salute

Every morning of his BLACKOUT he sits in his Hashtag Resistance Breakfast Nook and he stoically contemplates The Resistance as he takes a drink from his coffee mug...

[–] Parsani@hexbear.net 27 points 1 week ago

You laugh, but none of you have the self discipline of a Jedi
