Big tough oil men turn into limpwristed traitors who knuckle under when Trump calls to them. Fucking embarrassing.

Nationalize the oil already. Get the foreign corporations and their brain dead lackeys out.

Jeez, I thought my premier was bad (Ford), but to think that she's not just corrupt and stupid, but openly being hostile to fellow Canadians during this moment of crisis.

Albertans needs to have a hard look at how much money the oil barons are stealing from them and think about whether it's worth letting someone so selfish to lead them. The fact that the richest province in the country has one of the lowest public spending and lowest wages is something to to really think about.

[–] swordgeek@lemmy.ca 9 points 21 hours ago

A proper headline would be "Premier Smith has another whiny little O&G hissy fit, admits she's been a separatist all along."

Fucking Nazi scumbag is destroying our province faster than ever, and the rural vote keeps supporting her because "fuck them trans weirdos."

I have some sympathy for the hard left in the US right now, because how they're being treated by the rest of the world is how Alberta as a whole is being treated by the rest of Canada.

Maybe it's justified, I don't know anymore. Smith should be charged with High Treason when she comes back from Florida at the end of this month, but instead our American-owned media will fawn over her for 'decisive leadership' and 'putting Alberta first.'

We're trying folks, we're trying in Alberta to stop her.

Just another one to immediately string up when the war starts.

[–] LeFantome@programming.dev 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

To choose this level of disunity given what is going on is staggering.

Do we need to boycott Alberta too?

BC should put a toll on the million barrels of oil Alberta pipes through BC every day. You want our coast? We have a list of demands…

[–] swordgeek@lemmy.ca 1 points 20 hours ago

Please don't. Help us get her out instead.

[–] npcknapsack@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Right. So what I'm reading from this is that she wants Alberta to be Crimea. The US will come to "free" Alberta and leave the rest of us alone for a few years.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 2 points 21 hours ago

They speak American there anyway. They earn for the american world

[–] systemglitch@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago

She's a fucking traitor.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

(Follow up to my other comment) If Smith is going to choose Team Trump if Carney doesn't meet all her insane demands, then Alberta voters know she has already made her choice.

[–] kbal@fedia.io 39 points 1 day ago (3 children)

The demands:

  • give Alberta full access to export oil to the north, east, west, south, up, and down

  • stop saying mean things about oil and gas

  • acknowledge that carbon dioxide is what plants crave

  • double pollution in other provinces so Alberta doesn't stand out so much

  • put a tariff on the sun to stop solar power being so underpriced

  • end the prohibition on littering

  • dig a canal through B.C. so oil tankers can get to Edmonton

  • halt the federal censorship of energy companies

[–] Nemean_lion@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 day ago

She is wrong on the co2. brawndo is what plants crave, it has electrolytes.

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 day ago

So:

We're tired of you abusing Alberta's land, let us abuse land in all the other provinces and at least one territory (for some reason)?

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago

acknowledge that carbon dioxide is what plants crave

I didn't know brawndo was carbonated

[–] MyMotherIsAHamster@lemmy.ca 39 points 1 day ago (2 children)

She's been sucking MAGA dick for so long it's scrambled her brain. I can't believe people voted for this traitorous loser.

[–] 60d@lemmy.ca 4 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I got banned for saying this on Ribbit.

[–] MyMotherIsAHamster@lemmy.ca 5 points 21 hours ago

Doesn't surprise me - I got a lifetime IP ban for saying "Fuck Elon Musk all the way to hell"

[–] 7rokhym@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago

It's probably the lead and other toxins in the water. Basically brain worm.

[–] WorkshopBubby@lemmy.ca 42 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The tone of this is disgusting from Smith. God I am so fucking sick of conservatives. Every demand is just climate change horseshit that wont help Canada. But I think the PM should probably agree to many of these. We should probably build pipelines, and lift the tanker ban in B.C. Bring back plastic bags and plastic straws because conservatives are actual fucking children who cant compromise on basic shit like that without shitting their pants. The net-zero car mandate can be removed because its just a virtue signal anyways and people will shift to EV's naturally, because they are just way better in every conceivable way. Ignore the rest of the demands. This will give them a win, they can stick their pacifiers back into their mouths, and we can handle the crisis we are dealing with now. Once the political situation is stabilized we can get back to work on plastics and climate change etc. But Smith is a fucking traitor and needs to go eventually.

I think nothing actually pisses me off more then the Albertan oil dudes who are constantly bitching and complaining about how they are so mistreated. I lived in Edmonton for 2 years and met a lot of oil patch folks. And I have a few friends of friends who work there. Every single one, without exception, is ROLLING in fucking money that they don't know what to do with. They buy themselves a big truck that they don't even use most of the time because they fly to fucking work (company pays for plane tickets) they buy themselves a condo, and they go to country bars every weekend and blow 100's of dollars on booze and strippers and blow. Give me a fucking break acting like your this poor oppressed people because the rest of Canada wanted to lead by example in fighting climate change and keeping plastics out of the environment. Fuck me. A lot of our environmental stuff can be reasonably disagreed with. I am a builder and personally I think a lot of the step code in new homes is pretty impractical and a bit green-washy. We have added a shitload of extra costs to homes in plastics and tapes and insulation and labor making homes slightly more efficient, by just a few %, when the manufacturing of all that material far outweighs the savings in energy. However, I don't feel the need to tear the country apart over it. I accept that I will eat some extra costs in this stuff and make slightly less, but overall, its still pretty awesome to be a builder and live in Canada. Maybe ill try to make arguments to local politicians, or vote for the changes I want to see. Threatening unity in Canada during this moment in time is fucking unforgivable.

[–] Albbi@lemmy.ca 28 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Please don't bring back plastic bags. Seeing those bags stuck way up high in trees always makes me sad. Paper bags are fine.

-Signed, someone who can never fucking remember to bring a reusable bag into the store

[–] SaturdayMorning@lemmy.ca 3 points 20 hours ago

This may or may not help you, but what I do is: store my reusable bags with my shoes, so every time I reach for a pair of shoes before I leave the house, I could also grab a bag.

I think she overestimates Albertans support of her far-right bullshit. If she's going to suck Trumps dick, she can go start her own province, with hooker and blackjack.

Seperatism is a non-starter here, and they only just won back Alberta from the NDP pretty damn recently. If she wants to associate her name with the lunatics in the US, she'll find out why the CPC is looking to lose the federal election.

She should just go snog with Tucker Carlson and take that sweet, sweet energy company board money.

[–] wampus@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

And yet Albertans will almost definitely support PP, even as he campaigns using Trumps slogans, wearing Trumps bronzer, and promising the same DOGE-like crap that's going on down south. They'll also likely re-elect Smith when the time comes.

I hope I'm proven wrong, but I'm not optimistic.

[–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

And yet Albertans will almost definitely support PP

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Carney is from Alberta. He knows what Albertans care about most (the economy, oil and gas, pipelines, and Alberta beef). He knows they hate carbon taxes and he’s moved very swiftly to axe the tax.

His decisiveness, his heritage, and his determination to stand up to Trump who is trying to tariff our economy into oblivion will make him very popular. I think he’ll take the same approach as Zelenskyy: position himself as a wartime leader who is the right choice for the fight ahead.

As an Albertan, I fail to see see what leverage she thinks she has here. Our province consistently votes conservative regardless of how many bones the Liberals are throwing us (ex, buying a pipeline to ensure it gets constructed when the owner backs out) or how much the Conservatives ignore us.

Leaving Canada to either form an independent nation or join the US are both wildly unpopular, and there's nothing she can say that'll drum up enough support for either to occur. If she decides to "turn off the taps," her O&G overlords will punish her.

Like many of the dipshits making good money with little to no education in this province, she has a wildly inflated sense of our importance and value.

[–] 7rokhym@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Danielle could be immortalized as the plastic fork warrior, the kindest words I have for that idiot.

Alberta has a very high concentration of Americans that are here to take as much money as they can. Big oil in Alberta are actually Americans, well except for Nexen which Harper allowed be sold to the Chinese CPP. The locals didn't watch Kids In the Hall, these ones do spread for (wild) roses every chance they get.

[–] Grabthar@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago

Better dead than spread.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 25 points 1 day ago

All I heard was:

No Team Canada approach unless you make me Team leader! Waaaaaah!

[–] Reannlegge@lemmy.ca 22 points 1 day ago

I was thinking it was going to be some crazy wack a doodle things but the first few items I could understand, but then we got into the crazy wack a doodle things.

I really hope CSIS can do something more than slap her wrists.

So, derangement. Gotcha.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 day ago

What unity does Ms Smith uphold now that she could take away? I know only brief moments when her party hasn't been part of the problem, and specifically part of the problem by acting against the best interests of the country over and over.

[–] Darkcoffee@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 day ago

Look if she's that dumb, let her deal with tariffs on her own. Let her take the brunt of it all until she stops being a goddamn donut.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago

She way overestimates ABs contributions and her screed addressed one thing only - oil. It’s almost as if Albertans care about other things too - like healthcare and education??!! She’s useless AF.

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The last referendum was 49%. An "unprecedented" national unity crisis could only mean that they actually leave. Which would get them none of their demands from the feds and other provinces...

I think it's time to make Alberta a territory.
