Correct if I am wrong, but Assexual people do not like sex but enjoy deep relationships (romance) with other people, right?

As a gay man can someone tell me why straight people not wanting to get laid has ANYTHING TO DO WITH ME?! I’m so grateful to have organisations like LGB Alliance in 2025 to push back against this nonsense, it’s glorious to see them grow bigger & louder each year…

Are these people braindead? You can be homosexual and assexual at the same time, do this people think that sex = love? Do they think you need to love someone to have sex with them?

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 45 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

I doubt any actual gay people support the LGB Alliance, a shitty fake organization that only exists for transphobic purposes. Extremely strong "as a black man" energy from that post.

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 50 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't. Traitors are a dime a dozen, and gay men are the straight men of the queer community

Honestly, to be real with you, some lesbian, gay, and bisexual people are just very shitty, as no particular identity makes someone unable to be shitty. LGBT people are human, and humans, be they LGBT or not, can have awful, reactionary takes on things. I've dealt with a lot of discrimination from other LGBT people, not just on the basis of being the "wrong type of queer," but on the basis of race and other things too.

I don't doubt that many of the "LGB Alliance" people are just straight LARPers, but to say "no actual gay people support the LGB Alliance" is just denying and distorting how awful, exclusionary, and bigoted the queer community can be sometimes.

[–] Lemister@hexbear.net 34 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

A lot gay/lesbians straight up dislike/distrust bisexuals. Not to mention when it comes to trans people.

Being a member of a minority not a magic wand that erases all problematic views. Or inoculates from furthering systems of oppression.

10000-com

As an intersectional person, this belief is always on my mind whereas it seems like many leftists won't even think about it for half a second.

The neglect of the clear reality that being an oppressor and being oppressed are not mutually exclusive ends up being the reason why many POC feel out-of-place in majority white marginalized spaces like feminist and LGBTQ+ ones.

I've known very oppressive women, POC, LGBTQ+ people, and disabled people. Of course, all of our struggles against oppressive systems like patriarchy, white supremacy, cisheteronormativity, and ableism are of critical importance, but we can still acknowledge that basically giving marginalized people a pass to oppress other marginalized people, even if inadvertently, is just total lib shit.

asexuality is a spectrum but the main commonality is not feeling sexual desire. being aromantic or not is a separate thing although there's a lot of aro/ace folks around.

I have genuinely never seen real beef with the Ace community, how on Earth do you come to the conclusion that they are bad?!

[–] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 29 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well you see they don't hate trans people and they are on the same acronym.

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 28 points 2 weeks ago

That's really all it is, Ace folks under fire for disagreeing with Rowling's TERF worms.

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 34 points 2 weeks ago

I can't think of a living person who managed to burn more good will than her

I knew some queer folks who absolutely cherished the sort of "found family" aspect of Harry Potter leaving his asshole biological family who hated him for some immutable characteristic of his for others who celebrated those exact characteristics. Gee I can't imagine why.

It will forever blow my mind that she, almost entirely by her own accord, torched her legacy. And she's still at it. She's the case study of how bigotry rots your brain.

[–] Blakey@hexbear.net 48 points 3 weeks ago (12 children)

I know it's probably just because it's kid's media, but it's interesting that she managed to build up so much goodwill with a story that has so many deeply unpleasant aspects in the first place. I mean, the woman wrote a universe where fighting slavery is bad because the enslaved just love being slaves so much. She said lycanthropy was a metaphor for AIDS... When in her story, lycanthropes prey on children. She named her one black student, and I apologise for repeating this because it's so fucking gross but this is true, "Kingsley shacklebolt". She named the one black student shacklebolt. In a story with a species of fantasy slaves who actually you shouldn't free because they love being slaves. She made a story where drapetomania is real, then decided her one named black character should be called shacklebolt.

After all that, the fatphobia, misogyny, ableism and, yes, transphobia (because she even managed to sneak transphobia into harry potter) seems almost quaint.

Why did anyone ever let children read this absolute rubbish.

[–] axont@hexbear.net 56 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

I was a Harry Potter lore nerd as a kid (before I found Touhou) so I just wanna do a minor correction that the one black student's name is actually Dean Thomas. Kingsley Shacklebolt is an adult and an auror (wizard FBI). Different characters

She did however name the one Asian student "Cho Chang."

Also JK Rowling is a massive Terf and I despise her

A lot of her story is very meanspirited towards a lot of different peoples. Like you can feel the disgust through her writing when she comments on several women's features and their "big hands".

It's funny that all that problematic stuff got blasted into the forefront by Rowling being unable to shut up.

I could see myself in a different timeline saying "yeesh maybe I shouldn't recommend these books to my nephew this 'Chinese girl named Cho Chang' kinda sucks."

But now I actively oppose anyone reading them because Rowling sucks ass and her ass sucking caused a lot of people to go back and reexamine those books with a critical eye and notice the endless stream of problematic shit she wrote into them.

She could've just fucked off and enjoyed her billionaire life, but she just HAD to vocalize her opinion on the Trans Question.

Hell, I do remember, before she herself stated anything transphobic publicly, but just followed TERFs and liked their stuff on social media, there were STILL people in denial that she's a terf.

Who the hell has beef with ace people

I don't think I've even heard Christian fundamentalists complain about them. Mostly because it's really hard to sell them as a threat or deviants in any way, but still. Very weird battle to pick.

Edit: Ok for the record I don't assume that Christian fundamentalists and other right-wingers are tolerant of ace people, it's more so that I've never seen any public figures specifically target them.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 60 points 3 weeks ago (12 children)

ace folks get the same abuse from heteropatriarchal christianity that everybody else does when they don't conform to social and sexuality norms. idk how often the tirade is about ace people specifically because that would require the preacher and the congregation to know what that is, but if you're not not making white babies for jesus they hate you.

International Ace Day is more about educating people on asexuality as opposed to going over discrimination they face. A lot of people don't understand it, which is why the day exists.

And also, why does she care about us? Like you're a billionaire who got famous off a mid book series and instead of retiring, you're whining about trans and ace people on Twitter.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 49 points 3 weeks ago

Fancy a shag, m8?

M'am you're what like 60 years old and you sound like Austin Powers. Grow up.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 47 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

This woman very much went out of her way to target ace people because she clearly looked up the date of this day relevant to them and saved it.

Not ace but I'm somewhat left wing and queer and I could not tell you when International Ace day is. I suspect many ace people couldn't tell you when it is... But she planned for it.

[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 35 points 3 weeks ago

I was blind sided by Trans day of visibility this year... and i'm trans lmao. I can't get my own day straight (heh get it), let alone anyone else's in the rainbow gang

This is fake oppression, as opposed to the real oppression toward me, a billionaire, by people not liking my tweets.

[–] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 41 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

So much of sexual politics can be boiled down to "these people won't breed and thus are insufficiently loyal to the nation/family line and should be punished". Which is wild because people don't say this and instead say all sorts of other things to try to justify their bigotry.

[–] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 27 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I feel like there's subtext here about her thinking asexuality means you think you're special for not wanting to fuck literally every person you meet but it's not resolving in my head.

Is it "big deal, I also want to fuck everyone I meet but don't?" Is it "I do not want to fuck everyone I meet, you're not special?" is it "I don't actually want to fuck anyone, ever, like everybody else, you're not special"?

[–] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 28 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

some people, when they are faced with evidence that someone out there is not attracted to them sexually, take it personal and make it personal.

I don't even mean from someone explicitly saying to them, "I do not desire you." I mean, just the knowledge that someone is categorically uninterested, sexually, is somehow threatening to their personal self-understanding.

we (rightfully) lampoon this reaction in men towards women, but I don't think it's a sex/gender linked phenomenon. its some kind of social power/entitlement/fragility thing I can't wrap my head around.

Where in that image does it say anything about oppression? The thing about being ace is that society makes you feel like an alien, like something is wrong with you in a society where sex and relationships saturates everything. So finding other ace people can make you feel less alone and help you realize there’s absolutely nothing wrong you. Getting mad about ace people have a day for themselves in really petty, J.K. really is just an awful person.
