White liberals fetishizing black people. Nothing new. Still makes me feel uneasy every time they do it.

Also I like how the idpol almost entirely ignores her Indian half.

another parallel between blue maga/red maga. trump couldn't wrap his mind around kamala being south-asian AND black because multiracial identity contradicts his racist worldview where everyone unambiguously belongs in a box. meanwhile liberals consistently and exclusively put her in a box themselves, despite her long identifying with both

nothing surprising unfortunately, most americans are brought up to be biological racists and still believe in some extent of one drop rule

[-] TheDeed@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago

Not Trump, he says he always knew her as black and she became black "all of a sudden" lmao

maybe it’s because I’m a woman so this doesn’t apply but I’m comfortable being white Jewish diaspora—sure I have to reckon with my social privilege being a cracker straight out of suburbia, and I do feel absolutely rancid and ashamed every time I enter my synagogue on my parents’ behest and am confronted with the loud communal fascism problem in the form of the bold lettered עם ישראל חי painted on the window, but I don’t regret growing up as I did.

On the Jewish part I’ve met some really cool anti-Zionist Jews through my community. A lot of my formative values that caused my sharp turn left after actually being exposed to Israel and Israelis in my senior year of high school were taught under a Jewish banner at my Sunday school. My Holocaust education was very thorough relative to other Americans, which is part-and-parcel why I had the jumping off point I did. Unfortunately for the Zionists that used to be in my orbit, I was also taught pattern recognition. I don’t regret it.

On the white part, I really think there is this disgusting tendency amongst white liberals to fetishize adversity. It really is some Get Out shit—they’d rather become black—of course while not giving up the socioeconomic racial benefits that they’ve experienced, they’d clearly just pull themselves up by their bootstraps to make it where they are today—and feel like they earned their position rather than reckon with the social privilege that plays a part in their everyday life. When a capital-WL White Liberal comes into contact with critiques of systemic racism, their only way of coping with that is to performatively distance themselves from whiteness rather than, you know, using their privilege to act as poor little cracker in-between body-blockers with families and lives and hopes and dreams in situations where marginalized comrades would be unceremoniously domed and tossed aside by the Golden Arches Hitler brigade do-not-do-this because viowence scawy

white Liberal Zionist but wants to disown their Ashkenazi Jewish heritage in an attempt to be more socially-marginalized and thus, to them, more worth listening to, not realizing how disgusting they sound in admitting that. Many such cases very-smart

starting to come around to the idea that ‘self-hating Jew’ is a confession wrapped in an accusation because the most self-loathing people I have ever met are white Liberal Zionists. they’re constantly three steps away from dying on a failed morale check due to pure unalloyed cognitive dissonance and I have never met more people who have confessed mid-conversation (I went to a Jewish summer camp for a decade) that they wished to be further marginalized in some way (usually literally just in the “I want to be seen as more socially under attack than people see me as” selfishness that crackers who peddle this commonly have as their underlying belief). It’s happened enough times that I legit think it’s an enshrinable guy^(tm)^

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago

that they wished to be further marginalized in some way (usually literally just in the “I want to be seen as more socially under attack than people see me as”

They should become Haredi then? Forgive me for saying that but it comes across to me like Haredi jews have a significantly harder time. If they genuinely desired this they could accomplish but they choose not to.

[-] WhyEssEff@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

90% of the time they don't really want this. they want this to happen to them without any effort on their part and without losing anything.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago

Yeah my thought is that they want it as a tool to push their political goals (often variants of settler brained supremacy), without any of the consequences.

[-] The_Jewish_Cuban@hexbear.net 9 points 2 months ago

geordi-no reckon with the system and use my privilege and success in life to help raise the conditions of those who're put done by the system

geordi-yes notice my position and then performitively wish to be black to wipe hands clean of a responsibility to do anything

White Jewish guys don't wish they were black, they wish they were in the Beastie Boys.

Aren't contribution limits a thing? Or are we done pretending that our politicians aren't bought and paid for?

[-] CyberSyndicalist@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

nominally there a limits but the rich just donate however much they want to superpacs which are basically just front organizations for the politician.

[-] TheVelvetGentleman@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

I'm aware of all of the loopholes that exist now, but I didn't think the rich were just coming out and bragging about how they flaunt the very reasonable laws regarding contribution caps.

[-] RedWizard@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

Probably donating to a Super PAC and not to her directly.

[-] miz@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

they have figured out how to get the individual contribution limit up to $926k via funneling donations to all fifty-one state parties and the DNC. I believe Hillary's team is the one who pioneered this but I'm not sure

Harris Victory Fund accepts contributions of up to $926,300 from a person and $410,000 from a multicandidate committee (“PAC”). The first $3,300/$5,000 from a person/PAC will be allocated to Harris for President for the general election. The next $41,300/$15,000 from a person/PAC will be allocated to the DNC. The next $510,000/$255,000 from a person/PAC will be split equally among the Democratic state parties from: AK, AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, and WY. Any additional funds will be allocated to the DNC.

A contributor may designate his or her contribution for a particular participant by contacting contact@kamalaharris.com. The allocation formula above may change if following it would result in an excessive contribution. Contributions will be used in connection with federal elections, may be spent on any activity as each committee determines in its sole discretion, and will not be earmarked for any particular candidate. Federal law requires us to use our best efforts to collect and report the name, mailing address, occupation, and name of employer of individuals whose contributions exceed $200 per election cycle. Harris Victory Fund does not accept contributions from corporations or their PACs, unions, federal contractors, national banks, those registered as federal lobbyists or under FARA, SEC-named executives of fossil fuel companies, or foreign nationals.

Yea HVF was originally the Hillary For America fund and they did the same stuff. Since Harris was literally Hillary's plan B, I have no doubt she has the same donation bundlers and donors.
